Square / Rectangular Zeltbahn?

#1

Post by BDMhistorian » 04 Feb 2005, 02:45

Okay, I have a silly question. My BDM book references a square or rectangular Zeltbahn that they used - see picture from the book below. From photos they appear to be a light color, possibly a grey or maybe a khaki. Does anyone know what these are, and if anyone reproduces them or something close to them? Could they be World War I Zeltbahns?

I saw some khaki colored square zeltbahns on a website this past week. They were described as German, but I thought that couldn't be correct. Looks like I'll have to go find that site again.

I beleive the rectangular zeltbahn to be pre-war period.

They were also used by cavalry units on horseback… I have an SS one in reversible material and it is square…. I hope this helps.
