HELP SS Dagger worth ??

Postby Klitbjerg on 15 Aug 2012 18:00

Hey.

I'am close to buy this SS dagger which has belonged to a danish volunteer, who did service in W-SS Division Wiking, 5 btt.
He has all the documents and photos and uniform from this guy.
So i think this knife i geniune enough.

My question is how much is it worth (it looks very nice, nearly without any marks, only one little mark at the eagle under the swastika at the shaft)

Thanks :)

Hi,
Not expert in edged weapons at all, but IMO no foreign volunteers ever were awarded with SS daggers.
with best regards

I really think they were..
As i said he got all these items from the actual man himself..
And maybe i wrote it wrong, he wasn't in "freikorp dänemark" but he enlisted in the Wiking division under the 5th battalion off elite panzers.

I really dont think there is any question about the authentity off this item, but i would just like to hear what a knife like this goes for, when you have the documentation and everything ?

Klitberg,
A Danish member of the Waffen SS would NOT have been awarded a Dagger.....not unless he'd been a member of the A-SS previously (and if a Dane, that would have been impossible unless he'd relocated to Germany.....). So that part of the story....without more documentation, is probably "boloney".....

The Dagger appears to be original, and appears to be in decent condition. M7/68 RZM 1316/40 SS is for "Tigerwerk- Lauterjung & Co.".....but detailed examination would STILL BE NECESSARY! There may have been an attempt to denazify it, which would hurt (file marks on the swas. ?)

Without any "story" and not considering any documentation or other items....the Dagger would be worth between $1200.00 and $3000.00 US depending on "who, what, and where".....who your selling it too; what exactly it "is" and what condition it's in; and where you're selling it..(private sale, retail, or dealer prices, etc.).

As stated....NEVER BELIEVE THE STORY....judge the item on it's own merits....if the story "rings true" that's fine...but the item has to stand on it's own. This "story" does NOT, IMO! (Unless the documents can PROVE otherwise- (Prewar SS membership)!

Nice dagger...on it's own right (assuming....),

some thing is rotten in Denmark ,...

maybe the old guys memories are a little faded ,.
or he might have collected some extra things along the way ,..
as the lot seems to be mixed ,

OK , some times the ss were issued army material,
so things might be kosher ,.....
but the entire collection looks a little suspicious to me -

an " I.D.ed " dagger along with the " named " ss paper work {in a good economy } should be worth between $3,000.00 -$7,000.00

Hello there,

A dagger such as this in its present condition is worth around $3,500.00

Can't comment on the grouping, but you did ask...

$3500.00 is TOP-TOP DOLLAR FULL retail.....from the over-priced big names in collecting (the "Duck", the "Guild", etc., etc.).....they, as with all other memoribilia, can be bought for lot's less than "TOP DOLLAR" if you deal in the real world......of course, for some people, money is no object....(I call them the "Doctor, Lawyer, Drug-dealer collectors....who over pay and make it difficult for "normal" collectors)....

have you see the price of decent daggers at the SOS { show of shows } lately? -

there are several international German dagger web sites , that routinely offer lesser daggers for well over $10,000.00 !

{ though i some times wonder just how many actual sales they make, at those prices,...}

if you have a nice dagger for sale,...why not sell it to the people with MOST money?
let the poor smucks purchase and collect the repros and parts daggers -
i have a feeling that daggers with pedigrees will soon become the hottest of all world war two collectable's , reaching into high five figure dollar amounts within the next few years , despite this world wide recession

There is I think some confusion about the (legitimate) acquisition of an SS dagger because it was not simply going into a retail establishment and buying one like a soldier purchasing a dress bayonet. An Allgemeine SS candidate first had to earn it in a multi-layered process, with the purchase of the dagger from the SS organization itself. Which took a fair amount of time as the applicant completed the steps in the process of becoming an SS man. With many Allgemeine SS men (already awarded the dagger) at some point transferring or being transferred into the Waffen SS as it looked for new recruits to fill its ranks which gave them a commensurate status in that organization. But it was not a two way street - as simply being in the Waffen SS did not confer equal status in the Allgemeine SS. FP
