Hermann von Salza cufftitle

Postby soulja on 29 Jul 2012 08:48

Lately I obtain cufftitle "Hermann von Salza" (found by myself in attic together with more WWII relics).
Could you please help me out to judge is this a orginal period item?

I don't collect cloth insignia but I believe this is fake and was one of the many made in the 1970's/1980's as bookmarks for a well known German publisher to accompany newly released books on various German SS units.

Thanks for a clue. Can you give me more info (what publisher, example book, etc.) so I can verify that lead?

However, I still have belief that this could be real worn WWII item.

I believe it was Munin-Verlag and if memory serves me correctly they are also mentioned in a book about Cuffbands published by Ulric Of England as being fake.

I really don't think it is a genuine piece at all.

Judging by the signature below 'Himmlers' I would say that it is a fake also. There have been quite a few of these faked Ausweis on the market recently.

Thanks, but please provide some facts.
Who is signed these documents during `39? Is there any valid signature of SS-Obersturmbannfuhrer who siged this (for comparison)??
I made some research on my own and all data on this ID card is valid - number, name, birth date, etc.

There are no set signatures for these as they were issued by various departments so the signature will differ but I collect award citations and if I saw that lower signature on a citation I would leave it well alone. It looks false and done by someone who has no idea what name he should be signing.

A simple Google search will reveal how fake this is. Check this link http://www.snyderstreasures.com/pages/iddocuments.htm and you will see the attached Ausweis - same name and details but different person in the photo (and also a fake.)

Here is another faked one - http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/ ... ht=ausweis These have flooded the market. I remember seeing one on M321 a few months back and recognised the photo on it as I owned the original photo that the faker had saved off of the internet after I had posted it elsewhere and used it to make a fake Ausweis. And as I own that soldiers Wehrpass and citations I knew his real name which didn't match the one on the faked item.

And if this was in the same box that the cuffband came out of then it is another reason to doubt it.

Ok, but...
At first regular members of NSDAP receives his own Ausweis and number. Later on there was an idea to create Waffen SS from regular members of NSDAP (from Schutzstaffeln der NSDAP) . At this point new Ausweis (for member of Waffen SS with old NSDAP member number) were issued. This could make sense, as new members of LSSAH "Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler" (in this case) have new ID with proper, updated information. Based on this there is photo of young and second photo of older Mr Eurskens.

In short, No. if you had of checked the link I posted you would of seen that the dealer also shows the reverse of that Ausweis - it is dated as being issued on the same date as the one you posted. Plus the man's signatures are vastly different.
Not only that but the mans rank is listed as Staffelmann at time of issue but the photo shows him with the rank of SS-Sturmmann.

As I said in my other posts - the lower signature of the SS-Obersturmbannführer is enough for me to leave it alone.

soulja,
:welcome:
Unfortunately, "hucks216" is 100% correct in his appraisal of your ID Card & the cuff title.....unless your a well-seasoned collector never "believe" (buy/trade for) anything SS (especially PAPER, RINGs, CLOCKS, ASH TRAYS, anything with HITLER'S PORTRAIT, anything with LOT'S OF SWASTIKAS, SS RUNES, DEATHHEADS, etc.. etc.) as 99.5% of the time it's FAKE! Unless your Grandfather brought it home....it's PROBABLY a reproduction, fake, or fantasy....

I've done this for over 50 YEARS....and I could be fooled by a similiar fake document......that's why I wouldn't buy one from a dealer (without certianly checking with document experts...like "hucks216 and others here & at WAF)....stuff like ID Cards & photos, etc. are SO EASY TO FAKE.....very dangerous ground for the beginner (non-expert)....

We're here to help when we can....wish it was better news......

Thank you - sad news indeed :(

However, maybe this will be a real deal - photo album with about 40 photos (from the same stash):

Some of the photos have some inscriptions on reverse - dates 1942-43:

The photographs seem to be "mixed" with Army, Navy, Prewar Training, Luftwaffe.....with the text of the reverse card mentions "Inf. Ers. Batl. 355" one place and "Panzerjager" in another on the same card....and dated "42". The large gold eagle on the cover is (if real) for a NSDAP Party Leader, nothing to do with the "military" as such.....and while it's possible somebody (maybe the German, maybe the G.I., or maybe the "Faker" who assembled this album- just stuck it on!...it really ISN'T right!

IMO, you'd have to check every photo to see if real (many photo copies can fool the untrained eye!)or reprints....and even if real, most of these "generic" shots would have little value in and of themselfs....it looks assembled based on what you've shown....again using an old empty photo album, sticking on an eagle hat pin, adding "real" or "Fake" photos....and adding it to other reproductions and "salting" an attic (or making up a story and swearing by it!)...

Even if 100% real, based on what you've posted, the album would be of only "modest" value....but doesn't look vintage to me! Sorry, once again...but somebody is playing alittle "hanky panky" if they're claiming these are "vet" buys....be on you're guard!
