One I've just completed,

Helmut Von Pannwitz, who became the supreme Ataman of the "XV Kosaken-Kavallerie-Korps". he was eventually handed over to soviet authorities and executed.

My colourised image is based on a small but period indistinct image hidden in the depths of my hard drive, comparing this with the actual B/W image would strongly suggest that they were taken at the same time, in the same place,(Same uniform, same wall" I could be wrong, but who knows.

Nicely done Alex. The facial skin tones of the last photo are spot on. I find facial skin tones the hardest to do especially when the facial area is in shade or the photo is dark. Your colors are very accurate and vibrant. Now I'm going to have to some more.

Cheers,
Larry

Hi Larry, thanks for the kind comments. From a technical point of view, as you say, skin tones are the most difficult bits, (Uniforms etc are easy.). I personally build the face up using succesive layers of bits the face, colourising them and then using my transparancy tool, to reduce the "Top layer" colour so sufficient of the underlying colour then comes through, with practice some fairly realistic effects can be achieved. studying genuine period colour images allows for a good mimicking,

Here is a photo of Generalleutnant Theodor Scherer I colored for the cover of Jason Mark's book "BESEIGED The Epic Battle For Cholm." A very well researched book in my opinion.

Cheers,
Larry

Hi Larry a true and respectful WOW! a very sympathetic colourisation, makes my version I colourised several year ago pale into insignificance.
