sobel wrote:Hello von thoma, thank you for your comment. The uniform is not dark green but reflects the likely colour it would have appeared under certain artificial lighting conditions, it is obviously a studio portrait, possibly taken under tungsten lighting, which has a different colour temperature to lighting on a bright sunny day outside, the same uniform taken at mid-day outside on a sunny day would have a completely different colour balance or grey tone, being the more normal Felgrau. similarly, the silver halide emulsion used on 35mm film stock both colour and B/W reacted differently in certain lighting conditions (No digital imagery then) many genuine wartime colour images taken in studios under such lighting display uniforms of a different hue than they actually were. It would of course with the benefit of digital image manipulation to "Lighten" the uniform, I choose not to as I colourise what I see and not always what people expect to see.
I attach the original B/W image, as you can see they relative shades of grey show a much darker tone, his hat infact looks a like black hat, similarly a genuine colour photo of Hans Ulrich Rudel studio portrait, taken under artificial lighting suggests that his uniform appears much darker than it actually was
