Help with text on German photographs
Hello,
Could anybody please tell me what is written on the back of these two pictures:
On the first picture I can read this:
Dünkirchen, April 1941
Das ist die “Dorothy”, man kann es sogar auf den ??? Kotflügel lesen.
The rest is Chinese (or is it Sütterlin?) for me...
On the second picture I can read this:
Es war ein Mal ein Motorrad das hieß "Dorothy".
Es war ein Mal ein Königreich das hieß "England".
Then some Chinese again, and finally I can read this:
Zum Andenken und zur Erinnerung an meinen Dienstzeit in Dünkirchen in Mai 1941
Who can decipher the Chinese for me please?
Thanks in anticipation for your help!
Regards,
Jan

Re: Help with text on German photographs
I can help, the Chinese is called German cursive "deutsche Schreibschrift".
first photo: the word you are missing is "vorderen" Kotflügel.
and then: "Ich sehe nur so finster drein, weil das Luder schon wieder nicht geht."
Second photo:
"....wird es bald heißen! Wenn es nur auch so schnell gehen würde wie mit dem Motorrad!"

I doubt that, Jan.rewdco wrote:[...] and he hopes to be in England soon...

I rather would read it as:
There was once a bike called Dorothy,
there was once a kingdom called England (more correctly UK);
they will tell soon!
I wish it would happen so fast as with the bike.
So most likely what he wanted to express is that he wish that the english forces got beaten as fast as he (most likely) ruined the bike.

Re: Help with text on German photographs
It should be pointed out that the guy on the Bike is wearing a "Railway/Tramway" / Reichsbahn uniform....notice the winged wheel collar tabs.....even though the bike is "WH" (Wehr. Heere) from the tag....
Just for the record....

Hello,
Here's another Sütterlin text that I'd love to be able to read:
I think it says "Unsere Waffen Uffizier bei der Arbeit"... Is this correct?
Thanks for your help,
Jan

Hi,
I think it says "Unsere Waffen Uffz bei der Arbeid" meaning "our weapons NCO during work".
Regards,
Rudi.

Hello Jan,
you're almost correct. The caption says:
"Unser Waffen Uffz. bei der Arbeit"
Uffz = Unteroffizier
Best regards
Torsten

Gentlemen,
Here's another picture with a BSA. I'd like to know where this picture was taken, judging by the tank, I guess it must have been "somewhere in France"... Maybe the text on the back could be a hint? Unfortunately I can't decipher it at all... Who can...?
Cheers,
Jan
