Any Hitler signature experts?

#1

Post by agibaer » 26 Feb 2014, 12:52

Hi!

Is there someone around who can distinguish between Hitler's original signature and the stamps they used?
I read some hints in the net, but those signatures all look different. I don't know how many stamps there were and how the differ.

Signature 1 is definitely an original, my guess is that most of the rest are stamped.

I don't believe ANY of these are actual Hitler signatures (including #1).....all are probably "auto pen" as it's called (printed, of course). Hitler personally signed relatively "few" documents....on the scale of things.

In order to properly "tell", you'd need "high resolution/magnification" to see the "ink flow" and "cross-overs"...none of your examples are adequate to tell really, but none of these appear to be examples Hitler would have personally signed IMO....normally only the Higher Party or Military awards or Promotions...occassionally a "lower" award (or), but to a "special recepiant", and the like (none of the examples seem important enough for Hitler's actual signature!).

Hitler's signature changed over the course of his life, of course, so you need to know the style he used durning the "period" of the documents date...Hitler's signature changed, the printed ones never show the decline evident durning the war...

I'm not an autograph expert but have seen MANY "Hitler signatures", only two or three were original hand signed... all were much more "important" documents than any of these examples IMO.

I would consider the appointment of the finance minister of occupied Poland an important enough occasion for Hitler to sign.
I don't know how signatures by "auto pen" look like, but on signature 1 I can clearly see where the pen starts and ends, so it's definitely not stamped.

All the others don't show these signs, so I guess they are stamped.

-edit- Looking at the following site I'm pretty sure now signature 1 is real and the rest are stamped.

Also I don't think Hitler used "auto pen", browsing quickly through google.

Leaders and Personalities of the Third Reich Volume One by Charles Hamilton shows all the facsimile/stamped signatures used by Hitler.

I can't claim to have any knowledge of Hitler signatures but I have collected German motor racing autographs from the period 1933-39 for the last 3 decades. Both the German Grand Prix teams, Auto Union and Mercedes, were heavy users of the Auto-pen to cope with the massive demand for autographs. I would be surprised to learn that their use was not widespread elsewhere in the Third Reich
