Hi. I have one question:

What kind of information can be found behind a feldpost number?

The reason why I ask is because my family in norway are searching relatives in germany. And all we have is a feldpost number and a name. (The feldpost number is 19336D. The name I will only give to people who can help us, and by pm)

Thank you in advance :)

You can see in which unit the person fought, where he fought, structure and actions of the unit, you can learn if the unit was engaged in war crimes,..

FPNr. 19336D:
From 1940/1941 the number was used for the 9th battery of the Artillerie-Regiment 233 (233 rd Artillery Regiment).

Thank you History1. I have read the link today. But after what I can see the person I search information about (19336D) was in Artillerie regiment 233 , 9 th batterie. The dramatic text in the link you gave me, is about 4th batterie? has I understood the text correct? (my german language sucks..)

It would have been great to get more information about this 9th batterie of the 233 Artillerie Regiment. Any ideas of how to find more?

Thank you again for help. The information is exciting for us.

I don't mean to butt in and I am sure history1 will have more to say. But the only way to follow in detail the wartime history of German Army units of regimental size or below is through the history of the division they were assigned to. In your case, this would be the 196. Inf.Div. Unfortunately, there does not appear to be a published history of this division. So your options would be to order copies of the division's records or obtain all the books you can about the German Army in Norway. However, if your German language skills are weak, then the division's records may not be very useful for you.

The link doesn´t show only the action report - abridgment of this batterie but also gives account about the structure of this unit (AR 233).

I guess it would help if you state the name of the person and the time lap. Also it would help if you can say which results you allready got by your search.
