That's the same in the fleet, a "salty" Sailor or Marine does not look the same at one who has not been out to sea.

Dear NV,
I wonder if that opinion was kept up for those who were at Ford Island Naval Air Station or at Subic Bay on 12-7-1941?

I don't think the tag "salty" would apply but "combat" certainly would then.

Come and See of Elem Klimov is one of the best i've ever seen.
Then, surely, in other style, Judgment At Nuremberg.

Dear NV,
I checked it out on IMDb, looks good. Have you tried Saints and Soldiers? It's a Malmedy related story of a Mormon GI who has issues over accidentally killing women and children shortly before the Battle of the Bulge and is able to overcome his guilt to save his buddies.

Hi, yes I've seen that one a time back but it seemed too "spiritual" for me, since I'm not on that level I really didn't hold an understanding of it.

Mutiny In Port Chicago was a good movie but is only available from Germany in region 2, it does have an English sound track.

What is a good submarine movie, excluding "Das Boot" and "Enemy Below"?

Dear JT,
You forgot Operation Petticoat and its 1990's homage Down Periscope( I know it's not WW2 specific. but a WW 2 submarine is used)

Schindler's List, hands down. It's in a league of its own. Number two, Saving Private Ryan. SPR elevated war movies to a new and so far unsurpassed level of realism. Before SPR you couldn't show disemboweled bodies on the big screen. Afterwards, you could. In fact, guts hanging out like Christmas decorations have been de rigueur ever since. 90 percent of all war movies after SPR have been simple rip-offs. Maybe they should just stop making war flicks and refer to Spielberg's two masterpieces.

Yeah, except for the bogus plot.

I had to come back and make another comment after thinking about this, I must say you're mistaken. The comedy "Summer School" from 1987 had just that, a disemboweled body.
