Did Dex from Sky Captain modify the ME 109 into a transport? Also, why do these guys come off more like Moe, Curly and Larry than Clint Eastwood and Richard Burton?

P.S. Keep up the spoof work. May the Schwarz be with you.

Yes indeed. The video was made for a British movie magazine (Empire) which invited readers to remake their favourite movies in 60 seconds or less as part of a competition. This was one of the top 20 entries.

It was done for a bit of fun, not to be authentic.

There are many others on Youtube if you search including a few other war movies like Saving Private Ryan and The Great Escape. But this one is by far the best and I think it's very well done.

Dear Wwt,
I take it this is a bit like the Monty Python Trim Jeans theater version of the Great Escape?

I'll watch it if they feature Clint Eastwood in a cameo role, assassinating Invisible Hitler in his Führerstuhl.

Noone appears to have been drunk enough to be Richard Burton in Where Eagles Dare...

Hello, "Richard Burton", writer, director and editor here.

Thank you to Worldwarstoday for your very kind words about our spoof - largely costumed from the now-defunct Army Surplus Store in Croydon.

My expertise is rather more in the writing/spoofing/editing filleted versions of films I love, rather than detailed historical re-enactments. Hence the Ford Fiesta and the Alistair MacLean novel on the plane. In fact, we filmed this with only two guns. But it's astonishing how much stuff you end up with after having performed in am dram for a few years.

Dex, I went for a model of a plan that was about the right size. Sorry it's not a transport.

Mark, I've lost three stone since we filmed this (that's 42 pounds in American). Although it's been after my last video was filmed.

B Hellqvist, yeah you tell him.

Phylo, as I was driving and directing, I had to remain sober. There was more than one cast member who didn't...

In fact, going with Where Eagles Dare for the competition in 2010 was a last-minute decision as it snowed heavily. The original plan was Ice Cold In Alex, my other favourite war film, but we couldn't really fake the Sahara with a foot of snow on the ground. I still have the script for that on my computer.

I hope you enjoy my other shortlisted entries in the competition from 2011 (The Towering Inferno in 60 seconds) and 2012 (The Ladykillers in 60 seconds), plus my spoof of all of those Scandinavian crime dramas Hurda Gurda Murder.

And from a historical point of view, I was very proud to attend this event last year, in memory of my grandfather's cousin.

Take care,

Michael
