Giant Plothole in Inglourious Basterds...

Postby SebastianShaw on 02 Jul 2011 20:07

So... if you remember that Gestapo Major who gets shot in the groin and stabbed in the neck by the basterds, he sits down and plays that "guess who i am" card game with them as well. Earlier in the film the leader of the basterds 'Brad Pitt' asks a simple Wehrmacht sergeant; "i take it you know of Hugo Stiglitz?", the sergeant replies; "everybody in the Germany Army knows who Hugo Stiglitz is..." Samuel L. Jackson elaborates; "the infamous murderer of numerous Gestapo and SS high ranking officers". -Plus it shows a newspaper where you see Hugo Stiglitz's face! Now... would not a 'GESTAPO MAJOR' whose sole task is internal affairs of every facet of the Third Reich not recognize Hugo Stiglitz??? who escaped by the hands of the basterds themselves??? This of course would cause the Gestapo Major to bust out his Walther P38 and kill all three basterds sitting at the table and arrest the spy... which of course would kill the entire premise of Inglourious Basterds...

They needed this plot hole, because in Inglourious Basterds II, now being shot, he comes back to life as a SS Doomtrooper
to further wreck havoc amongst the Basterds.
