It had a short service life and saw only one engagement with the Japanese at Midway where 35 of 41 sent never returned. They were obsolete and outclassed by the Japanese Zero. Devestators were withdrawn from frontline service after Midway and only served on as advanced trainers until the end of the war. Only 130 TBD-1s were ever built. None survive today.
