Frank Capra's World War II Why We Fight Series

hey volks,

just picked this up yesterday on video at Barnes and Noble.. it was $6.98 on the bargain table.. ;)

Basically it's 6 US propaganda films by Frank Capra about WWII and the US involvement in it. granted it's patriotic propaganda.. but there is tons of footage of pre War Germany Italy and Japan as they build up for War.. The German conquest of Europe.. BoB.. Invasion of Russia.. and then War Comes to America.. lots of those nifty propaganda animations too.. showing battle strategy.. just watching the animation of the invasion of the low countries.. I had a new understanding of how it all fell together.

pick it up if you can find it for a window into the American Govt's mind of the period.

I got it for Christmas...Yes a little to korny on the moral boost side but excelent footage...I liked the part when the Germans captured that huge fortress complex...I believe it was located in Belgium..I may be wrong...very interesting, but still the moral junk added a laugh here and there...Lata

Odd, I'll check it out.

The song is La Marseillaise, the French National Anthem, I think?

Although this is not a quiz, I think, the song sounds to me as "God Bless America".
In all, the music is a mix-up, so it is difficult to reach the original melody from it.

They used "Boots and Saddles" frequently in that series.

There's three bits of music from the Why We Fight films I'd like you to attempt to identify for me.

Firstly, while some of the footage of Axis atrocities (such as in "The Nazis Strike" and "Divide and Conquer") is accompanied by the second movement of Beethoven's 7th Symphony, there was another theme used in this context -- you can hear it (for example) in The Battle Of China (where it is used in reference to the Rape of Nanking).

Secondly, could you identify any of the music between 0:36 and 2:37 in this clip?

And thirdly, what's the menacing, somewhat oriental-sounding music used here (and elsewhere when the subject of Japan is brought up)?

Thanks if you can help me here.
