Questions about Der Untergang

Postby Christian W. on 01 Feb 2005 22:39

Who was that German who killed himself and his family with grenades when they were having dinner? I dont remember his name, but he killed himself because Hitler didnt allow him to leave the city and he was afraid that Soviets would capture him and his family.

Also, that tall man, the one who was guarding Hitlers room, what was his name?

This was Hitler's adjutant SS-Hauptsturmführer Otto Günsche - played by Götz Otto

Good. Over 300 people were watching it.

There were even some neo-nazis watching it... They did nazi salute and said Sieg Heil.

Yeah, I even read the rumor of some neo-nazis, who were acting as supernumeraries in the movie...

Don't know, if it is true...

What is a supernumary? An extra? I heard the same rumor about Enemy at the Gates. It might be true.

Mhh... my english. sorry...

With a supernumerary I meant "extra" actors, for example those SS who are fighting on the streets, or when they are surrending in the end.
So, the actors, you don't see very often... I hope you understand now, what I try to say. ;)

Apparently, this is true, and those extras included a bona-fide right-wing politician, to boot: Karl Richter of the NPD had a bit part as Field Marshal Keitel's adjutant!

Don't you think that French and Dutch volunteers and their engagement were totally ignored in that film? We know that they had operated in the centre of the city....

Kind of, then again the film doesn't emphasize on the battle there are only some short scenes of it.
And almost all scenes show Volkssturm people, so there wasn't any intention to show "real" fighters anyways.

There are some points in the Movie that dissapointed me.

1.Too few fighting scenes.
2.The unneccesary third side plot of the SS-Doctor Schenck (he is also too positiv depicted). It actually don't add much to the film excpet to the very end were they are in the subway.
3.They showed WAY too few about the Red Army. I at least would have expected an gorgeous scene where Soviets storm the Reichstag and raise the Red Flag. Then they could have shown a aerial view on the smoking and destroyed Berlin. The Storming of the Reichstag was THE symbol of the Battle for Berlin. What a shame...

Mmhhh well...In the film they arent shown looting and raping but only encircling the surrendering Germans and then the Russians dance their Kassachok and drink Wodka. Then Hitler secretary looks a Russian into his drunken face and he is looking like an idiot and Traudl gets afraid. We have to assume that the Russian was evil... ;)
