It is based on a book by the US Ambassador to the Soviet Union, Joseph Davies, and is very pro Soviet. Perhaps this is not suprising given the Soviets were an ally, however the film is full of historical inaccuracies, including a terrible whitewash of the Moscow show trials of the 1930s. The film was blacklisted by the House Un American activities committee after the war.
This was on TCM recently. Can't believe they still show this movie. But glad they do, it is an educational experience showing how corrupted FDR and Hollywood were at the time by Marxists.

My vote is Hitchcock's "Lifeboat". :P
Dear PF,
Have you ever seen a Frank Capra "Why we fight" Movie? Before passing judgment on Hitchcock, see one of these bags of fertilizer.

Also add badly flawed by taking liberties with facts:
In a movie about Rommel {James Mason} the beginning shows the commando raid to Kill Rommel-in which about a dozen Germans are killed. In fact only 4 Germans were killed while the commando forces loses were 1 killed 2 escaped and the rest captured.
The Longest DAY--too many fictioned blatthering {the german who puts his boots on wrong feet was not killed; nor did any RAF pilot who survived the Battle of Britian ended up wounded and crippled}
The Victory at Sea Series-real footage mixed in with US and japanese and German models propaganda :thumbsup:

Any movies that are so bad that ultimately they are good "camp movies" and offer good laugh?

I can name the American movie "Ski Patrol" (1940), which is really funny to watch for anyone, who knows some facts about Finland and about the Winter War. It is also conveniently short (approx. 1 hour). A real Winter War camp classic!

Some more modern movies offer interesting details also - the Korean-Japanese movie "My Way" (2011) shows a woman who shoots down a I-16 fighter with a single rifle shot. Maybe there is some movie, in which they bring down enemy aircraft by throwing stones, which luckily hit the engine and the plane explodes. Of course a bow and well aimed arrow makes the same trick. Or how about throwing a spear?

"My way" shows also very unbelievable buddy story between Korean soldier and Japanese officer, who shares the same destiny passing through Soviet and German Army. At the end the Korean guy dies but during last moments he manages to give his identity to a Jap guy, who lives after that as a Korean guy. The same movie shows also soldiers and officers with a long hair almost at 1970´s style in Wehrmacht. The true basis of the story was interesting (a Korean soldier, who served in Japanese, Soviet and German army during 1939 - 1944), but the movie spoils it almost completely in my opinion. They could have made it better skipping away stupid buddy story and telling the real story.

I agree that Pearl Harbor (2001) is awful - at best it can be considered as a mediocre propaganda movie falsifying facts. With some cut editing and using black-and-white film something like a replica of 1943 propaganda movie could have been achieved. By doing it that way a decent camp movie would have been possible.

even after the end of the War-still terrible movies-there was one about ex RCAF officer who traces a War Criminal and beats him up and then has the police arrest him-the police of JUAN PERON......just as bad were even cartoons shows-such as the fantasy escapism "Johny Quest" in epsiode "The Devil Tower" where the Quest find a nazi War Criminal who has been hiding on a innacessaible mountain in Africa-and who tries to kill the quests but ends up crashing his own plane...with an implied fate of being killed..although in "Johnny Quest "Series sequel there has been a deranged Man criminal who tries to rule the world but gets killed off each time yet comes back again and again.... :lol: The "Mission Impossible" series was entertainng but just as bad especially as the Old NAZI BANK ACCOUNT get IT FROM THE WAR CRIMINAL..OR STOP NAZIS FROM RISING AGAIN.... :lol: :P

To be strictly accurate - it was remade two years ago. And isn't a patch on the original, although the production values are far better.
Twenty years ago we had Johnny Cash, Bob Hope and Steve Jobs. Now we have no Cash, no Hope and no Jobs....
Lord, please keep Kevin Bacon alive...

I just watched "Your Job in Germany" as I was unfamiliar with it till now. Complete and total rubbish. At least der ewige Jude had facts about who was in FDRs cabinet, supreme court appointees, financial houses in New York, etc. The gross mischaracterization of Bismarck and Unification and the notion that Germany alone caused World War One was part and parcel of the sort of lack of empathy or understanding that made this country complicit in the Versailles Treaty.
Anyway, I have to third its nomination.
