Need help with some photos

Postby stefanmg on 20 Jun 2012 13:54

I recently found a very small photo of my third great uncle in my grandma's family house. His name was Aleksandar Aničin and he was a Serb from the village of Parage, also in Bacs-Bodrog county. However, he is referred to in the photo as "Anicsan Sandor", which is a magyarized version of his name. The photo looks like it was cut off from a book and on the other side there is a photo of another person, also from one of the villages of Bacs-Bodrog country. Are there any books listing all Hungarian WWI veterans with photos? I know for a fact that he was a WWI veteran and that he lost an arm and a leg fighting for Austria-Hungary on the Eastern front, but I would like to know more.

Also, I stumbled upon a picture of Johann Link. He was a K.u.K. soldier from the town of Palanka, Bacs-Bodrog County in Austria Hungary. If anyone can tell me something about his rank in the army or the medals on his uniform, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi stefanmg,

There exist a lot of memorial books that were published in Hungary in the years after the war that contain photos and names of WWI veterans. However you have to know exactly in which regiment your relative served, as these books were published by the individual regiments. For more help you should contact the library of the Military History Institute (Hadtörténeti Könyvtár) in Budapest at him.konyvtar@mail.militaria.hu.

Good luck!

Thank you both for your help. The mail address of the library of the Military History Institute did not work for some reason, but I managed to contact them through their website, with some help of Google Translate.
