Photo of Hungarian Army Uniform & Unit Identification

In search of Klébl Márton, my grandfather born 1900 in Budapest, Hungary: WW1 - in search of my grandfathers role in WW1 Hungarian Army 1918, (3 pictures posted on this forum) identifying his uniform, rank and perhaps his unit.

I WAS TOLD: I was told he served at the very end of the war 1918, just a few weeks, and the war was over. I asked "what then became of you", and he answered they became P.O.W for a few short weeks and then were released and had to make there way home independently without government transportation.

A group photo shows him in the BOTTOM ROW, 4th from left, laying on to the cooks left arm. Can anyone tell me anything particular about this picture such as what were there specialty (if any)...things like that.

Much thank you in advance for ANY information that i can use to furthur my search

My grandfather, Márton Klébl, I think 1918, Hungarian Army: MY QUESTION: can anyone identify for sure that it is WW1 era (he was born in 1900 so it is reasonable that he participated in 1917-1918). ALSO: his rank and if possible, his UNIT

Hello Tom. M. Klebl looks older than 18 in the photos. I don't know when your family came to the US (mine came from Hungary in 1905), but perhaps he was in the Royal Hungarian army after the war.

Green was the color of Hungarian infantry AFAIK without regimental insignia as in the A-H forces, common army or Honved. Of course the photo was touched up, but green is what we have to go on. Shoulder straps were not colored in the A-H forces. One star without embellishment was Gefreiter/Orvezeto or "private first class." The marking on the left sleeve is unfamiliar. It may indicate a specialist or trade, or perhaps a qualification. It is not Austro-Hungarian, again AFAIK.

One last item. The port-epee on the bayonet frog would indicate either an officer aspirant or a commissioned officer. Either (either A-H or later Royal Hungarian) army would have that rank, second lieutenant (Leutnant/Hadnagy), as one star, but with a bit of "litzen" to distinguish from an enlisted rank.

Also the belt looks post WW1. Ordinary A-H soldiers had a "Koppelschloss" with either the double headed imperial Austrian eagle, the Hungarian coat of arms or both, the eagle and the coat of arms (later in the war).

Did he serve after the war too? To me, the photo with the coloured collars looks like a lieutenant. Note the buttons. Enlisted mens and NCOs uniforms had covered buttons. This one is a so-called "Karlsbluse". That was an non-official jacket, worn by officers, sometimes by NCOs. The Karlsbluse was introduced in 1917

The pictures are definitely post war, taken between 1919-25. A new type of blouse was introduced in 1926 with standing collar. The insignia on the arm is for a troops pioneer, it's the same as the earlier austro-hungarian, but worn on the arm on a patch, instead of the collar.

Hello, I have come across this photo that belonged to my father who died in 1999 . I think that is his father ,my grandfather, front left of picture ( no medals)
Reading previous posts it looks like he is in the same uniform as the photo of Martin Kieble Hungarian infantry AFAIK ?
Anway, if any one has anymore information about the picture , and any of the men in it ,it would be very much appreciated.
Kind Regards

A photo is not early than 1917. Your grandfather is a lieutenant. If to specify the last name and name, then it is possible to look after Ranklists.

Thank you all for your replies and insight and answers. You guys gave me answers that I have not found independently.
I have a question on photo of Márton Klébl WW1 or post WW1 standing picture: HIS HAT. I have never seen photo's of this style. Not very common?
I noticed all the different locations the responses came from...VERY EXCITING !
