GbBrigs 15-18
I need info about the composition of these units right after their formation in October 1914, I looked at http://www.austrianphilately.com/dixnut/dn6e5.htm but there is nothing about their structure for 1914, only later and I think later the composition changed thoroughly. I know that 15th and 16th were made mostly, but not solely, form the battalions of Tirol Lanstrurm regiment 1 and some other Tirol landsturm battalions. About others I found nothing yet. I hope there are people who can help me to put this puzzle together.

Re: GbBrigs 15-18
That's OOB from August 1914 right after the mobilization with which I'm quite familiar, the brigades I'm interested in were formed in October and in the OULK there isn't an OOB showing their formation. I found some titles which would be helpful for my cause at least concerning the 15th and 16th , unfortunately they aren't available on line, those are '' Das Tiroler Landsturmregiment Nr. I im bosnisch-serbischen Herbstfeldzug 1914 '' and '' Tiroler Landsturm in Serbien ''. If someone has a copy of these titles please let me know!
Re: GbBrigs 15-18
According the O-U officials, the 15 GbBrig was formed from the II Balkan March Formation and the first part of the III Balkan March Formation (O-U vol. I, page 647). The brigade was first identified as kombineierte brigade Wieden on 7 Oct, and consisted of 8 battalions and six batteries. The comment about this unit in the text is that this unit was quite welcome as it was equipped with repeating rifles, rather than the more common Wendt rifles.
On 16 Oct the kombineierte brigade Wieden was broken up for operational reasons, with five battalions now forming the 15 GbBrig as part of the 50ID. The other three battalions formed the core of the 16 GbBrig (page 649).

Never heard of a Wendt rifle. Do you mean Werndl rifle?

Hi Jeff, thanks for the reply. I have a question:which title you refer by O-U officials? I'm quite interested about it!According the O-U officials, the 15 GbBrig was formed from the II Balkan March Formation and the first part of the III Balkan March Formation (O-U vol. I, page 647). I also have information that 15 GbBrig consisted of 8 battalions. Some of the battalions ( 3 or 4? ) belonged to Tirol Landsturm infantry regiment I ( I think ) and there was also an independent LstBn 9, I don't know for the rest, I suppose those are at least 4 other battalions.

Misspelling on my part. Yes the Werndl rifle.
Clandestino
The source is Österriech-Ungarns Letzter Kreig, the same source you referenced as OULK. It is the official history, hence I tend to reference is as such.
Again from O-U, the 17th GbBrig was originally Gruppe Karpellus (page 650). Gruppe Karpellus was formed from 3 battalions of the IR 79, the Lst IR 27, a motorized battery, and a mountain battery (page 640).
Little on the 18 GbBrig except it was a new formation (page 711).

Re: GbBrigs 15-18
Hi Jeff, it seems we have different editions of OULK, in mine volume there aren't such details on those specific pages on GbBrig 17, or any other pages whatsoever. My edition is from 1931.
Re: GbBrigs 15-18
I believe there are two editions of the first volume. Higham lists two publication dates, 1930 and 1931. The simplest method is to look up the names of the individuals I provided in the index and the units themselves and you should find the information.
If you have access to the O-U Registerband, you can look up the units and individuals and it will give you the page numbers within the series. For example, under the 15 GbBrig, the ‘Schacht an der Drina 6 Sep bis 4 Okt’ it lists I/1 654, 655, I/2 655, 656. [I is the volume, 1 or 2 is the edition]
In either case, the page numbers are likely a page or two off between the first and second editions.

Re: GbBrigs 15-18
thanks for the explanation, I wandered what that I/1 and I/2 in register means since there is only one book in volume I. So your info is from the other edition, presumably 1930 since I have 1931 and there aren't those details in my band.
Re: GbBrigs 15-18
Humm... that is interesting. I have not worked with the 2nd edition, but I am surprised that they would differ that much. My German isn't all that great, but I am pretty sure of my translation. The fact that there are corresponding cites in both editions leads me to think that nothing was removed.

Re: GbBrigs 15-18
I found some information about Lst. Inf. Baon nr. 9 : originally a march battalion recruited in Linz landsturm district, it served on Italian border until 15. October 1914. when it was transported to Bosnia. In Bosnia it was equipped for mountain warfare and received a machine gun squad and was attached to 15.GbBrig. At the time of mobilization it had 22 officers and 1076 other ranks while after the fights in Bosnia and Serbia in 1914. it was reduced to 5 officers and around 200 soldiers in January 1915. Finally it was merged with 3 other battalions into ( landsturm ? ) battalion nr. 28.
