I would appreciate any assistance in identifying the uniform worn by my grandfather, Siegmund Kugel, in this picture. I was told he was an orderly for some officer. It was taken when he was on leave visiting his in-laws in Pozsony (Hungarian) or Pressburg (German), now Bratislava in 1916. He was 51 at the time. The photographer, "Mindszenty B," (Bela Mindszenty - the name inscribed follows traditional Hungarian order of surname first followed by the given name) was well regarded at the time.

Re: Uniform Identification
Looks like a private-purchase version of the standard Austro-Hungarian infantry uniform; the cap especially seems much nicer that standard issue. There are no rank or unit insignia, which fits with being the orderly for an officer.

Thanks Old Prohaska.
It's intriguing to me that even though he was a German citizen at the time and lived in Berlin when the war started, he served in the Austro-Hungarian army. Of course, he probably also had Austrian/Hungarian citizenship, too.
Best regards,
