1916 Christmas Gift - Tobacco Tin ?

#1

Picked up this small metallic tobacco box, looking at the motif on the lid and the stamp in the bottom left-hand corner. I get the impression it was a Christmas gift from the government to their front-line soldiers, along similar lines to the British monarchy / government with their Princess Mary Christmas gift tins. This one is for Christmas 1916 - have members seen other variants of these tobacco tins that were issued from maybe others war-year Christmases or maybe have any addition information.

Hi Black,

I'm familiar with the badges but not this type of cigarette case. I would draw your attention to the link below:

I am not sure of the age of your item, others may say differently but I think yours is a later produced item.

Best,
Simon

No, this type of tobacco box was given to soldiers by the Kriegsversorgungsamt, I have one that was owned by Oblt. i.d.R. Franz Erhart while he was serving in the TKJR Nr. 1.

Thanks for the link Simon - Old Prohaska, heartening to read there's another identical tobacco box out there, the one in Simon's link has the same motif but a different shape. The condition of mine is so good (minimal loss of blacking) I feel it may have been issued, then the recipient for whatever reason didn't use it, perhaps put it away in a draw and forgot about it.
