Hi,

first impression (99 %): Prince Albert ("Bertie") later King Edward VII as owner of 12th Husaren-Regiment. Stars of The Garter and St. Stephan. But the Golden Fleece... *hmmm*. Otherwise it could be a spanish Fleece....

second impression (1 %): Ferdinand of Bulgaria

Christian

Thank you, Glenn!

I have a new one. You can see him on a pic as Hauptmann with many foreign decorations. He got some more of them and was told te be one of the most decorated officers of the k.u.k. army after 1900. He ended in 1918 with the rank of Feldmarschallleutnant.

Who was he and which function did he have to recieve so many foreign orders?

Regards

Christian

Hello,

I think this gentleman is Albert Freiherr von Margutti, Eduard Graf Paar's 'Flügeladjudant'.

Hello,

When the Dual Monarchy collapsed, Austria had no access to the open sea. One would therefore assume that the last promotion to admiral took place in 1918. Wrong - the last appointment as titular - Rear Admiral was in 1924. Who was the last admiral of the (already dead) Emperor?

paulus

Sorry, no

Our Admiral was born Dec., 4. 1871 in Pola and died Apr., 5. 1933 in Vienna.

The Admiral knew this ship very well:
Spring 1909: Artillery officer (as Linienschiffsleutnant 1st Class)
1917 - 1918 Commander (as Linienschiffskapitän)

paulus

I'm sorry, it was a bit too difficult, but I think it's interresting to know the last Austrian admiral (except Dr. Meixner).

Eugen Wilhelm von Schram:
born Dec., 4. 1871 in Pola and died Apr., 5. 1933 in Vienna

Career:

01. 07. 1890 Seekadett 2. Klasse
23. 12. 1892 Seekadett 1. Klasse
01. 05. 1893 Linienschiffsfähnrich
01. 05. 1899 Linienschiffsleutnant 2. Klasse
01. 11. 1903 Linienschiffsleutnant 1. Klasse
01. 05. 1911 Korvettenkapitän
01. 01. 1914 Fregattenkapitän
01. 08. 1917 Linienschiffskapitän
01. 01. 1919 retiered
05. 07. 1924 Titel eines Konteradmirals

Christian, your turn

regards,
paulus

Hi,

you are right, it was quite a heavy one. But I have a backhand blow too :P.

Who is the man on the portrait?

Can you identify his decorations?

Which function did he have to get so many orders?

What was his last rank?

Regards

Christian

Hi,

it seems to need an additional hint:

he was chief of staff of a higher command in Vienna before and while WW1.

Christian
