Belgian Army Automatic Pistols WW1

#1

Post by keith A » 16 Feb 2013, 22:05

I have bought the Osprey Belgian Army ww1 book recently and was surprised to find that officers of the Belgian Army carried Colt M1911 .45 pistols. I thought that they were issued the M1903 .32. I know that officers buy their own pistols in most armies of the time but haven't encountered the M1911 pistol being used by any army other than the US Army and USMC in ww2. I know the Belgian Army were issued with the Nagant M1878 revolver too.

Has anyone seen evidence of the M1911 in Belgian Service in WW1?

regards

No, belgian army never adopted it. Ofcourse it is possible that some individual officer bought one, but just wonder... cause well ammosupply would have been one mess. Most common automaticpistols were FN Mle 1900 and Mle 1910. Colt M1903 was also a official sidearm in belgian army.
