What would have been the comments of an impartial observer if

a) On 31 august 1939,France would tell Britain :"We expect from Britain an immediate and effective participation in the war against Germany" and Halifax would answer : we will do all what is possible .

b) The day before (30 august) Daladier had said during the Cabinet Meeting :"Germany was not aiming at war, but her measures were caused by Poland

c) France declared war on Germany on 1 september 1939,and on 3 september,Chamberlain would ask the consent of the King to draft a DOW on Germany, which would be sent to Berlin on 4 september, or one of the following days (being that clever not to precise a day),everything would depend on the political/military situation .

On a),the comment would be : Britain is trying to dodge her commitments

On b), the comment would be : Daladier should immediately return to Fuller (Massachusetts),and why did they release them ? /or : Daladier has passed more than honorably his lie examination .

On c),the comment would be :Neville and Halifax are Tweedledum and Tweedledee.

Now, let's go back to 1914:

a) 31 july 1914 : German telegram to Vienna : "Wir erwarten von Österreich sofort tätige Teilnahme am Krieg gegen Russland .(DD 479)
Reply from Berchtold : we will do all what is possible .
Comment: ?
b)Protokoll der Sitzung des preussischen Staatsministeriums am 30.juli 1914:(DD 456)

Bethmann : "Russland beabsichtige auf keinen Krieg, sondern sei zu seine Massnahmen nur durch Österreich gezwungen".
Comment:?

c)3 august 1914 : Immediatvertrag des Grafen Berchtold (Österreichische Dokumente zum Kriegsausbruch: III,124)

Blahblah, ..I ask the consent of your Majesty to draft a DOW on Russia, which could be sent tomorrow or one of the following days .it would depend on the political-military situation . (not included is :"Your Majesty will observe that I was that clever not to mention a precise date, so that we always have the possibility to dodge our "commitments".But we can trust that FJ did not need this clarification. After all ,since 66 years,he did business with faux-jeton who were dodging their commitments .
