BTW, your above image I thought for many years was a combat photo also. I know it is from a film now though, and it looks very real.

I watched 2 very old German WW1 movies, Stosstrupp 1917 and Westfront 1918. I had no idea such realistic movies of WW1 existed so long ago. This old photo could very well be a still from one of these movies or one like them. It was pretty interesting to see German soldiers as humans back then even though I couldnt understand what they were saying. Im only used to seeing German troops as the enemy, with really scary looking uniforms, helmets, and equipment.
