Francis Peganhmagabow
Gentlemen,
I read something on Wikipedia about a Canadian sniper named Francis Peganhmagabow who reportedly had 378 or 420 sniper kills against the Germans during WWI. I think his real score was much lower. I need help finding more about his combat record. I know Peganhmagabow was an excellent shooter but his number of kills was questionable.
Sincerely,
Edward L. Hsiao

Re: Francis Peganhmagabow
Hello
Lets start with the correct spelling...."Pegahmagabow"
Here is the gc.ca site with his service record:
http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discover/m ... gabow.aspx
It contains a link to his full service record
Why do you consider his record "questionable"? Do you have evidence to the contrary?
Cheers
Larry

Re: Francis Peganhmagabow
I think one has every reason to be suspicious of these numbers. Hecket-Prichard's "Sniping in France" gives few numbers
but alleges that one whole division (38th from Wales) with a dedicated sniper school had 387 kills over the while war (page 104; London, 1920). The Canadian official history mentions only 200 German prisoners taken at Mount Sorrel. So the source that credits Pegahmagabow with taking 300 prisoners all b himself in that battle seems not to be in accordance with other - much better sourced - books.

Gentlemen,
I don't remember any sniper books that mentioned Francis Pegahmagabow's final confirmed score at all.

Gentlemen,
I knew for sure that Pegahmagabow's sniper kill score is in dispute all along! So Pegahmagabow boasted about it eh? Shame on him! Boasting will get you nowhere.
