Hint: this vehicle was an early solution for the problem of transporting artillery over bad ground.

after 7 days, the hint # 1 ... both events being nearly exactly 6 months apart, one in harbour, one at sea.

Will it help if I said I know the guy but cannot think of his name - still trying to do it without cheating by looking it up as I know the ships concerned and should know the guys name too! Doh.

Next question:
During World War I, a ship from one of the belligerents was attacked and destroyed by an enemy ship inside the territorial waters of a neutral country. Name the ships involved and the neutral country.
