Hi all,

Re: Photos of Axis airplanes in Spain
Hello Sturm,
It's the maritime reconnaissance version of the Ju 52 3mW with what looks to be some sort of "cap" over the aft gunner's station. My best guess on the forward "bulge" would be an open panel of some sort on the port side but I really have no idea. A very rare plane indeed in the LC. There is some background info on the aircraft pictured, No. 52 7 here:

A similar aircraft shown with painted over civilian identification:This particular aircraft - red '527' - complete with Totenkopf emblem on the nose, was used by the AS./88 for liaison and transport duties. During a flight from Cadiz to Pollensa on 21 March 1938 it came under attack from two Republican Fiat CR. 32 fighters, one of which was shot down by the Ju 52's gunner. Republican Coastal Defence reported ;
" ..at 15:10 two fighters were airborne to intercept an enemy seaplane spotted eight miles from the coast, north-east of Cabo Palos. The fighters engaged the seaplane but the rebel aircraft managed to shoot down one of our aircraft which came down in the sea thirty five kilometres from the coast, exploding on impact .."
Cheers,
Max

That dome on Sturm78's aircraft has been getting to me. At first I thought it was a perspex bubble but enlarging it just confuses me further:
Anybody?Cheers,
