In 1936-1937 Konteradmiral Wilhelm Canaris, head of German Intelligence (Abwehr) and Armkom II Rank Jan Berzin, head of Soviet Military Intelligence (GRU) visited Spain. Does anyone know the name of their Italian equivalent and whether or not he too visited Spain during this period?

Well, IIRC Mario Roatta was officially the head of the Italian Military Intelligence Service (Servizio Informazioni Militari, SIM) from 1934 to August 1939, and he was actually in Spain from the end of 1936 to about mid-1937, first organizing the transfer of Italian military aid to the rebels and then as commander of the CTV. The SIM's second-in-command, Colonel Paolo Angioy, acted as interim director during the period Roatta was in Spain.
Regards.
