OoB at end SCW?

#1

Post by 5th Horseman » 27 Mar 2015, 02:43

I have read (I think) that there were 60 "divisions" at the end of the war.
I would be interested in the listing of Armies/Corps/Divisions and any independent brigades and regiments at the end of the war.
And any idea of the manpower authorized/actual in those units.

Just trying to get an idea of the structure, numbers and capabilities of the army at the end of the war.

Thanks, 5th.

As you are talking about 60 "divisions", I take it you are asking about the Ejército Nacional, the Nationals' Army.
The OoB on 1 April 1939 was:

Ejército del Centro (Army Center)
-----Madrid Army Corps: 16th, 18th and 20th Divisions
-----Maestrazgo Army Corps: 1st, 82nd, 84th Divisions
-----Navarra Army Corps: 4th, 5th and 63rd Divisions
-----CTV: Littorio, Flechas Azules, Flechas Negras and Flechas Verdes Divisions
-----Toledo Army Corps: 11th, 14th, 71st and 74th Divisions
-----Agrupación Guadarrama-Somosierra: 72nd Division and 1st Agrupación de Reserva
-----Agrupación Tajo: 107th, 19th and 17th Divisions
-----Army reserve: 1st Cavalry Division
Ejército del Sur (Army South)
-----Extremadura Army Corps: 21st, 24th and 60th Divisions
-----Granada Army Corps: 32nd, 33rd and 34th Divisions
-----Andalucía Army Corps: 40th, 102nd, 112th and 122nd Divisions and 2ª Columna Ligera
-----Marroquí Army Corps: 12th, 13th and 105th Divisions and 1ª Columna Ligera
-----Army reserve: 2nd Cavalry Division
Ejército de Levante (Levant Army)
-----Galicia Army Corps: 55th, 58th, 83rd and 108th Divisions
-----Castilla Army Corps: 3rd, 15th, 57th, 81st, 85th and 152nd Divisions
-----Aragón Army Corps: 51st, 53rd and 54th Divisions
-----Urgel Army Corps: 61st, 62nd and 150th Divisions
-----Albarracín Army Corps: 52nd and 56th Divisions
-----Agrupación Guadalajara: 72nd and 75th Divisions
-----Destacamento Ligero

Each division had on paper 12 infantry battalion equivalents, 2-3 artillery battalions ("grupos") each of 2-3 batteries, some engineer companies, sometimes a cavalry squadron, plus services.

Also on 1 April 1939, the Army, including the units not in the Península, had the following strength:
Infantry: 840.000 men
Cavalry: 15.500 men
Artillery: 19.000 men
Engineers: 11.000 men
Services: 68.000 men
Moroccan troops: 35.000 men
CTV: 32.000 men
Total: 1.020.500 men
Weaponry was as follows (some of those numbers I would take with a grain of salt):
Rifles and the like: 1.054.000
Handguns: 36.000
Ligth machine-guns: 22.000
Machine-guns: 13.000
Mortars: 7.600
Artillery (guns/batteries)
---anti-tank: 375/38
---coastal: 362/94
---field: 2.453/621
---anti-aircraft: 54/14
Tanks: 651 (33 companies)
