Hello to all :D; a little query.............................

Admiral Scheer naval bombardment against Almería - 1937.

Almería was attacked 52 times by national, Italian and German planes. The first time by "the others", ie Franco's pilots, on 6 January 1937. But the strongest attack came from the sea in the early morning of May 31, 1937 (Jutland Day for the Germans sailors). A witness of that time counted five war ships in front of the port that suddenly lit up short and violently, the naval bombardment of Almeria had begun.

Salvos came from the pocket battleship "Admiral Scheer" (Kp.z.S Otto Ciliax) and four destroyers (Seeadler, Albatros, Luchs and Leopard), in retaliation for the attack on the twin unit the "Deutschland" a few days earlier. Around 200 grenades killed equally housewives, shepherds, aldermen, laborers, etc. The shells damaged hotels Spanish and English, the Spanish Credit Bank and Nike Perfumery. Kriegsmarine apologists said the targets were military in the harbor, but the fog made it difficult to aim. Later Otto Ciliax received from his leader the Spanish Cross First Class in gold and swords .........

The then Chilean consul in Madrid, Pablo Neruda dedicated a poem to the fact ... A dish of blood from Almería.

Any other Spanish city suffered a naval bombardment by the Kriegsmarine or national vessels? TIA. Cheers. Raul M 8-).
