At which date did von Richthofen leave as chief of staff of Legion Condor? ABR gives the date 30 Sep 1937 but according to "The Legion Condor" by Karl Ries & Hans Ring it was 11 Jan 1938.

Thanks.

Hi Marcus,

According to Phoenix Triumphant, The Rise and Rise of the Luftwaffe by Hooton (pages 134 - 135), Sperrle left his command (and Spain) on October 31, 1937, but Richthofen remained in Spain for a further three months before he returned to Germany, to ensure continuity when Hellmuth Volkmann took command of the Legion. This points to the second date as the more correct. Just another source to consider. :)

regards,

Darren

Thanks Darren. "Condor Legion: The Wehrmacht's Training Ground" by Ian Westwell also gives the later date.
