Port Blair

Postby Treve on 24 Jun 2012 06:25

I am seeking information including images of the Japanese in Port Blair and even throughout the island.

It must be one of the least covered places in terms of Japanese occupation - at least visually.

Also any information on British operations would be appreciated - beyond the names of these operations.

Thanks. I did see this in an earlier post of yours I believe.

0ne tends to see images of the Bose when it comes to the islands as opposed to more ordinary ones of Japanese troops and their lifestyle there. I wonder if anyone has worked seriously in the archives there on that period. There is a large museum as well apparently.

Here are two photos of Japanese bunkers that are still on the beaches at Port Blair. Taken in 2007 by myself.

Very interesting thanks. Are there any more remnants of the Japanese occupation on the islands? Is the museum shabby or does it have a decent section on the Japanese?

Hi, we have a hotel in Port Blair called Sinclairs Bayview in a location called the South Point. It has a Japanese Bunker in the campus. The bunker also has an original broken cannon. Will post pictures of the bunker shortly.
