Hi all

As part of the RAF airfield building expansion programme, an airfield was built in the Kuala Ketil area, east of Sungai Petani. I’m trying to identify where it was on google maps, can anyone help.

Taken from

APPENDIX A
To Report on RAF Operations in Malaya and N E.I, 1941-2.
Situation at RAF. Stations in Malaya - 8th December, 1941.

I know

Location given as Kuala Ketil

Satellite for Sungai Petani

The runway was Tarmac, 1,400 yds long
Buildings were a Guard Room, and Petrol, Oil and Bomb stores
There were no Aircraft shelters or AA guns.
1 company of Bahawalpur Indian State battalion stationed there

Hi cstunts

Thanks for replying, but I think you've given me the co-ords to Sungai Petani airstrip

Is there a website you're getting your co-ords from?

You are absolutely right: I'm dead wrong about that field.
Sorry. No idea at all where Kuala Ketil A/F was located...

I believe the coordinates were probably from PacWrecks website, but not certain.

I saw some questions about barracks also, and while I have no direct specific info on those, I know that the Dutch Army barracks in Padang, Sumatra in 1940-41 were ancient, and said to have been constructed 'around 1895.'
