Japanese landings on west coast USA

#1

Post by abc123 » 14 Oct 2006, 08:03

Did the Japanese ever land on the west coast of USA for intelligence gathering or even war like opperations, having seen some stuff on the landings on the Australian coast, it seems logical that they would of also targeted USA, Canada or even Mexico, any reports, cover ups or roumours would be greatly appreciated and received.

I looked into Japanese attacks on the American mainland, as distinct from landings, a year or so ago and couldn't turn up any more than is summarised in, dare I say it, Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attacks_on ... rld_War_II

This isn't strictly to do with landings but I found it interesting http://web.umr.edu/~rogersda/forensic_g ... %20new.htm

I don't know what you've read about landings on the Australian coast but there are some tall stories told at times. There's a useful examination of some of those stories by Peter Stanley in Threat Made Manifest at http://www3.griffith.edu.au/01/griffith ... php?id=201 but don't put too much store in a lot of the other stuff he says because he's drawing a pretty long bow a lot of the time, when he's not being downright ridiculous.

Greetings to both brother abc123 and the community as a whole. Well sir, in reference to your introductory posting of Saturday - October 14, 2006 - 8:03am, old Uncle Bob would appreciate a clarification on the geographic parameters of your inquiry. When you speak of Japanese landings on the west coast of the United States of America, are you ONLY asking about the State of California, the State of Oregon and the State of Washington? If not, I will naturally assume (rightly OR wrongly) that you are also including the territories of Alaska and Hawaii within the overall framework of your inquiry. Thank you in advance for your indulgence in respect to this matter. Well, that's my initial two cents worth on this topic of interest - for now anyway. In anycase, I would like to bid you a copacetic day no matter where you just might happen to find yourself in the greater Intermountain West.

Best Regards,
Uncle Bob  :|

In the book Japan's Secret War by Robert K Wilcox there is mention of Japanese submarines landing Axis spies including a Spanish spy Angel Alcasar de Velasco who was investigating the Manhatten project.

Wilcox has a website through which you can email him.

Link is broken, archived version is at:

FYI, if you find a broken link, you might be able to find it archived at:

Not sure if this is the best archive, but I like the name -- "the Wayback Machine"

Or was it "Hollis Wood"? I used that movie for working on several points, including target identification.

Occurs to me a thread on incidents of target misidentification might be fun.
