he didn't have much naval help, used A.A.Force planes, F.D.R. didn't like him or Truman... he set up Japans Govt. after the war..Bataan surrendered April 9, 1942... Doolittle raid was April 18, 1942,.. was he a smart General?

In terms of sheer intelligence he was. IIRC, He had/has the 2nd highest graduating score of any West Pointer, Robert E Lee was 3rd. An "unknown" from around 1880 had the highest. IDK , why the guy is unknown.

Also this is a very old recollection, no idea what source or what context, And this info could easily be in error or off in rankings now.
