Beards Among Crewmen aboard US Submarines

#1

Gentlemen,

I had seen pictures of US submarine crewmen wearing beards aboard their vessels during patrols. As I recalled the US crewmen were supposed to have haircuts and to be clean shaven before entering port. Am I right? I wondered how much clean fresh water could be carried aboard a US Navy submarine? Hygene was important aboard a WWII US sub. Aboard a German U-Boat,during a patrol, keeping clean all over a crewman's body was a problem. Not enough flesh water aboard a German U-Boat.

Sincerely,

Gentlemen,

Anything yet that you can contribute? Beards were definately out aboard US warships during WWII. But when it comes to US submarine crewmen, some of them including the commanders wore them on patrols in the Pacific.

Sincerely,
