What was the answer from the CO of 24 SQN RAAF at Rabaul in 1942 when he received orders from RAAF Melbourne to remain and fight though his squadron was down to 1 (damaged) Hudson and 2 (damaged) Wirraways ?

Yes.

Many survived through escaping to new Guinea but many were caught and massacred at Tol and Waitavalo Plantations on 4FEB42.
