yes - criticised for leaving behind the Pl Boys A-T Rifles. The only thing the Bn had to deal with the two tanks landed by the Japanese.

To you Brian.

OK, who referred to a unit under his own command as having "run like rabbits" after their difficult retreat from the Japanese?

(later) FM Sir Thomas Blamey

In November 1942 Blamey addressed troops of the 21st Brigade—who had been hammered by superior Japanese forces on the Kokoda Track—and seemed to accuse them of having run like rabbits. Whether his words were misunderstood or not, the soldiers were indignant.

At least one veteran recalled that, at that point in time, he was prepared to down arms and assault Blamey on the spot.

Left is a magazine and on the right is its filler. Writing is in English I would assume it is for a non-rimmed round so probably 9 mm. I would therefore summise that it is for the Owen Machine Carbine ?

"Sacked" for not pushing troops hard enough, I was so highly thought of by UK Commanders that they specifically requested my services to assist with planning D-Day!

My career did not seem to suffer over much. I still became Chief of the General Staff!
