This crew got their shot off in the nick of time judging by the T-34s gun position...

Agreed, something odd about the posing, too casual and non soldier like. The photos it self looks staged and even though we see many staged comat photos this pair seems to have no grit.

From Signal 1943: The text from the magazine:
SIGNAL3.jpg

The enemy is nearby. A fight against seperated enemy groups happens slowly from the moving vehichle. The gun fires sharpnel and explosive granades and the machine gun wipe out every suspect land position.
SIGNAL5.jpg

To side/hide. If resistance is harder, the group must get to close combat. The few shooters now concentrate their fire against a company, which is spread out.

The situation changed quicly. And then smoke shells helps, and it is posible take distance from the enemy.
A stop to a village side. From new positions a hard resistance is made against the enemy with few weapons and troops.
SIGNAL1.jpg

"Sanitary man here". A wounded man is carried to refugee procted by smokes.
After a hard fight. The enemy had planned a strike, but the grenadiers got there before. And they spreaded the enemy unit completely.

Dear Ali,
I think there are 2 AFVs in the photo. One looks like a KV-2 as you suspect, the other may be a light tank or armored car of some type.

Thank you for the correction, TH-M2...

German infantrymen force their way into a snipers hide-out, where Russians had been firing upon advancing German troops, on September 1, 1941.
