Data Plate from Okinawa

Post by missingmarines » 12 Apr 2015, 17:18

Greetings all,

I recently picked up a USMC veteran's scrapbook on eBay, and included loose in the pages was this Japanese data plate. Wondering if anyone can help translate it. (Vet has a few personal pictures of wrecked Japanese aircraft on Okinawa, perhaps it's from one of those?)

Thanks in advance!

I am not a proficient Japanese speaker, so this is approximately what the last two lines of text say. Take it with a grain of salt.

The last line says (approximately):
住友通信互業株式会杜, which I have translated as:
"Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd. Conversational Switch" (The character "杜" can also mean stoppage, interruption, cessation, or suspension)
Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd. is currently a manufacturer of electric wire and optical fiber cables. But during World War II, they produced electrical equipment for the Japanese Military.
the line above that says (approximately):
?造昭和19年2月重量1.3瓩, which I have translated as:
Constructed on Shōwa 19 (1944), Month 2 (February). Weight: 1.3 kg
(Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd. was called Sumitomo Electric Wire & Cable Works before WWII, so it must be the former)

Hopefully a more proficient speaker can correct some mistakes that I have made.
Thanks!
