I could only tell you that Thielens was a Flemish SS-Untersturmführer. But I can't tell you much about him, If my note's are correct we was later transfered to the 27. SS-Freiwilligen-Grenadier-Division «Langemarck». Isn't that strange for somebody who followed a Panzer-Junker-Lehrgang?

Hallo Stormman,
I know from John P.Moore´s Führerliste, that Thielens was in a SS-Pz.Rgt in 1945, but I have no further infos about him. In 1945, everything was possible. You need Panzer for Panzerjunker, and there were not many in the divisions .. Maybe, he should be transfered to the Pz.Jg.-Kompanie of the SS-Pz.Jg.Abt 27?

Oh sorry, it was a mistake, I don't have him listed for the Langemarck-Division!

Hi,
maybe he was in the socalled Pz.Rgt/SS-FHA, I have no detailed info about this regiment, but it seems, that this unit needs many officers ...
As I stated, in 1945, everything was possible ...
By the way, were there other volunteers in these Panzerjunker-Lehrgänge?

Yes, I think there where more Flemish volunteers that participated on these Panzer-Junker-Lehrgänge, but I'm not sure (!). I think that SS-Obersturmführer Rosseau participated on such a Lehrgang, and SS-Oberscharführer Colemonts, but he didn't pass. These two men where also decorated with the Ehrenblatt Spange des Heeres.
Could you follow these Panzer-Junker-Lehrgänge also in Bitsch?

Hello Stormman,
sorry for answering so late! I have only the first four courses in my files, and for the second, third and fourth only the list of promotion to SS-Untersturmführer.
So I have no information about further Flemish absolvents of this courses. Do you have any dates for Ostuf. Rosseau or Oscha. Colemonts beeing in Puttlos, Fallingbostel or later Königsbrück?

The absolvents of the first course had a Vorbereitungs-Lehrgang within SS-Pz.Ers.Rgt on trainig ground Bitche and were transferred to Putlos. The absolvents of the second course having their Vorbereitungslehrgang in Fallingbostel, to wich the Panzerjunker-courses were transferred after the first course ended.

1. SS-Panzer-Junker-Sonder-Lehrgang PUTLOS 1943 soll vom 17.8. bis 6.11.1943,
for "active" Standartenoberjunker, there were a Lehrgang an der Oberfähnrichschule 1 der PzTr. Zossen/Gross-Glienecke vom 8.11.1943 – 3.3.1944, the "Reserve"-absolvents returned to the SS-Pz.Ers.Rgt and then to their field units.

Vorbereitungslehrgang in Fallingbostel Nov.1943 until Jan. 1944
2. SS-Panzer-Junker-Sonder-Lehrgang FALLINGBOSTEL vom 10.1. bis 5.4.1944
again Lehrgang an der Oberfähnrichschule 1 der Pz.Tr. Zossen/Gross-Glienecke von April 1944 bis 5.7.1944

There was a course at Oberfähnrichschule der Panzertruppe I (Wehrmacht) nach Könisgbrück bei Dresden vom 1.12.1943 - 9.11.1944, he had no "Panzerjunker-"number, but there seems to be about 100 SS-Junker. Promotion dates for this course:
Zum SS-Junker am 01.08.44 mit Wirkung vom 01.07.44
Zum SS-Standartenjunker am 22.09.44 mit Wirkung vom 01.09.44
Zum SS-Standartenoberjunker am 01.11.44 mit Wirkung vom 09.11.44
Zum SS-Untersturmführer am 30.01.45 mit Wirkung vom 30.01.45

No infos about the Vorbereitungslehrgang, maybe Jan. til March 1944?
3.Panzer-Junker-Sonder-Lehrgang Fallingbostel von 25.4. bis 8.7.1944
again Lehrgang an der Oberfähnrichschule 2 der Panzertruppenschule Wischau b. Brünn der 4. Oberfähnrichlehrgang vom 24.Juli bis 5.od.7.November 1944

No infos about the Vorbereitungslehrgang, maybe at SS-Pz.Unterführer-Lehr-Abt on SS-training ground "Seelager" ?
4.Panzer-Junker-Lehrgang 1944 Königsbrück vom 4.7./17.07.1944 bis 11.11.1944
at Fahnenjunkerschule der PzTr 3 Königsbrück
again a Lehrgang am der Oberfähnrich-Schule 1 der Pz.Tr. Potsdam-Krampnitz v. 28. (15.?)11.44 – 30.01. (28.2. ?) 1945

Vorbereitungslehrgang at SS-Pz.Gren.A.u.E-Btl 5 Ellwangen and SS-Pz.Ausb.u.Ers.Rgt, now on training ground Sennelager near Paderborn.
5.Panzer-Junker-Lehrgang Fahnenjunkerschule d.PzTr 3 Königsbrück von 01.10.1944 bis 15.02.45
followed by a Oberfähnrich-Lehrgang Oberfähnrichschule der PzTr 2 Wischau v. 1.4. – planned until 31.7.1945

Vorbereitungslehrgang at SS-Pz.Ausb.u.Ers.Rgt, Sennelager
6.Panzer-Junker-Lehrgang started on 1.4.1945 at Königsbrück, and was transferred to Landshut and should last until 31.7.1945. The absolvents were transferred to a combat group and send to action in the Coburg area.

Any additional informations about absolvents and staff personal?

Well, the main problem is that the only "real work" on the school system of the Panzertruppe, Helmut Ritgen's Die Schulen der Panzertruppen des Heeres, collects many interesting details and memories concerning these schools, but the commanded SS-Personell is only mentioned "am Rande"

Hi Jan Hendrik,
strange enough, that the schools of the Panzertruppe doesn’t have a "first class" history because of the importance of these schools for the envelopment of this units, it is clear, that these small classes of members of the Waffen-SS seemed to be forgotten, but I hoped to get some further information right from former members of these schools … in vain, I suppose!!!

Well, if Mr. Ritgen, helped by the "Freundeskreis der Offiziere der Panzertruppe", had not done this job it would been already lost...he still had the opportunity to ask his comrades who were participants of the Lehrgänge, Ausbilder or Kommandeure of these institutions...most of them are already gone..only Ritgen is still alive 8-) nearly 92 years old!
