Here is another photo of Frank that appears in his death notice in "Das Schwarze Korps" that was included in his Personalakte This photo is unlike any that I have seen in any publication and is an example of why it can be so difficult to accurately match photos to specific persons.

Hi,
does someone have some info-data-pictures about Italian (and South Tyrol) volunteers?

Thanks

MIA notice for SS-Sturmbannführer Alfred Bünning, who was the commander of the III./SS-Panzergrenadier Regiment 22 of the "Frundsberg" during the July 1944 Normandy battles and was commanding the remnants of the SS-Pangergrenadier Regiment 21 at the time of his death on 19 August 1944 at St. Lambert. Although Bünning is only listed as "Vermisst" in the documents in his Personalakte, his grave can be found at Mont-de-Huisnes in Normandy. Alfred Bünning is also the younger brother of SS-Obersturmbannführer Hans Bünning, who was a personal friend of mine. Both brothers enlisted in the LSSAH in 1933.

I totally agree with Mikedc, always highly interesting.
I noticed that Ustuf Kneipp is not mentioned, wasn't he MIA that day?

110 KIA - 137 WIA - 461 MIA for a total of 798 casualties...I wonder how many of men was left to the Rgt after a month of battle...

Here is an MIA list from the III./SS-Pz.GR.26. Note the appearance of Manfred Buse on this list and note also the listing for Manfred Buse as item 16 on the KTB of III./SS-Pz.GR.26 in the KTB thread where he is described as being taken prisoner on 27.6.1944.

I found SS-Untersturmführer Manfred Buse's grave in the Commonwealth Military Cemetery at Bayeaux. The date of death on his grave marker is 26.6.1944, one day prior to the date given in his battalion's KTB for him being taken prisoner. Does anyone know how Manfred Buse met his fate?
