Erasmus Freiherr von Malsen-Ponickau
Re: Erasmus Freiherr von Malsen-Ponickau
Hi Andrey,
It could be nice if it was von Malsen-Ponickau, but the shape of his ears is different. I doubt it is him.

Andrey and Michal,
You are both mistaken.....it is Malsen-Ponickau and is a photo from his SS file.
Max.

Re: Erasmus Freiherr von Malsen-Ponickau
Still terribly confusing.
The father of the 4 brothers' full name was Theobald Maria Theodor Konrad 26.06.1867 - 20.10.1930. He was listed in the 1914 bayerisch Rangliste as Kmdr I/bayr IR Nr 12. There was a key at the end of his award entries, meaning that he was a Bavarian Kammerer.
There is a 1918 bayr Militär Handbuch lying around but Theobald was no longer in it. Indeed, as Andie said at the Panzerarhiv forum, Theobald's last rank was Obst, confirmed by the 1926 Ehrenrangliste - the entry being Obst aD.
So perhaps it is one of the few times Montag made a mistake: his third son, Conrad (23.01.1899 - 00.00.1964), was a Lt in bayr FAR 4 (as Dave said). He was listed as being with Reichsheer AR 7 in the 1926 Ehrenrangliste. The 1920 Rangliste showed him as Lt with AR 7. The 1929 Rangliste showed his promotion to ObLt. Being so junior in rank, I think his father stood a better chance of being char als GenMj than him, especially when Conrad did not have a stellar military career that was documented anywhere.
To add to the confusion, the first two pics Theirry posted clearly show a Freikorp v Epp kenzeichen on the man's left sleeve. So again, perhaps Wolfgang was the Stahlhelm Bund veteran as well as Personal Adj to v Epp, not Lambert
Cheers
