SS-Sturmbannführer Wilhelm Kment

SS-Sturmbannführer Wilhelm Kment.
I'm looking for some more info about this officer.

After some further research I was able to identify him as SS Sturmbannführer Wilhelm Kment also ex-Das Reich. Kment had been born on 8th March 1915. Had joined the SS and graduated from SS Junkerschule "Bad Tölz" in 1935 to become Commander of the Kradschutzen Company (Later 1. Kom.p SS-Kradschützen-Bataillon) of SS-Division "Reich", serving with them through the battles of Holland and France in 1940, and Yugoslavia and the invasion of Russia into October 1941. He then became commander of SS-Aufklärungsabteilung (reconnaissance troop) of "Reich" until January 1942 during which time on 23rd January 1942 he was awarded the German Cross in Gold. Somewhere around that time Kment had been seriously wounded in action - Possibly in the counter attack against Russian forces which had broken through around Rzhev, close to Gshatsk on the Eastern Front, where Das Reich were at that time engaged. The fighting was bitter and on 21st January the motorcycle Battalion alone lost 4 officers and over 70 other ranks killed in action with many others wounded. Possibly Kment had been one of those. This wound had been so serious it resulted in the loss of an arm. Therefore after convalescing Kment had been assigned to Himmler's Personal Staff (Personliche Stab Reichsführer-SS) as Decorations Officer responsible for processing awards of the German Cross and Knight's Cross for Waffen-SS members. This explains why he appears on Boska’s Knights Cross recommendation and other SS ones I have studied since. Finally between 1944 and 1945 Kment was assigned to 17. SS-Panzer-Grenadier-Division "Götz von Berlichingen" although at a disastrous period for GvB Kment had still survived the war, passing away on 15th November 1984.

I did found this piece of info on the following website:
http://www.dasreich.ca/froom.html

I also did found something on SS-Hauptsturmführer Wilhelm Kment on this forum, in the Waffen-SS officers Casualty Reports posted by John Moore. He's mentioned in a document regarding 'Das Reich' officers and there he's also mentioned as CO from the SS-Aufklärungs-Abteilung 2 with 'Das Reich'.
http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... c&start=45

I also did found some things on this forum regarding this officer concerning the fact that he was the Decorations Officer for the Waffen-SS within the Personal Staff RF SS.

But that was all I could find about him, so hopefully somebody can tell me a bit more about him.
Any help is welcome in this case, because this looks like a very interesting officer to me.

Greetings,
Mike

Thanks for telling me Juha.

But as I don't have that book I also can't look it up.
Still, I appreciate the fact you tell me about it.

Mike

Nevertheless, is there someone who has information about his post war time; where did he lived?
Could it be, that he married Constance Kröger, the widow of SS-Hauptsturmführer Otto Kröger?

Thanks for further infos
Jens

The mentioned vol. 1 of my German Cross series has his GC recommendation, full career bio, and multiple photos. He became Himmler's decoration officer and his handwritten approval is on numerous RK and DK recommendations, the award process and documents themselves also explained in detail in the same volume.

Are you sure that he lost an arm ? Most of the photographs show him walking with a stick, so it looks that he rather lost a leg !

Hullo everybody,
I post here two picture both supposed to represent Wilhelm Kment. The first, full body, is taken from "Dictionaire de la Waffen -SS " nr 3 by Trang, while the other one from the web.
Is in your opinion the same man? Take into consideration that the full body picture has been taken on June 1944, when Kment had already won the DK in gold and the Nahkampfspange in silber. Both of them are not on the uniform of the first picture
Which is your impression?
Thank you

Hello!
I think it is not Wilhelm Kment on your first photo ("Kment 01.jpg").

There are many people at forums think that officer next to Tychsen and Klingenberg is Stadler but I absolutely sure that it's not Stadler but probably Kment.

I see
Stubaf. Kilb/N.D. Kdr.III./Pz.GR. 36 10.43
It means he was in 16. RFSS?

Ciao
