He was only in command for a very short time as i understood. (or as it was stated to me by a Indian Legion veteran; "hours")
Phil Nix writes in his biography "lack of interest" from Bertling's side, but the truth is that the Indians objected to losing their beloved commander Krappe
Bertling got word of this and thought something in the line of "fair is fair, if they don't want me...i'm off again"...and resigned.
Krappe stayed in command, Indians happy.

Interesting shot of Heinz Bertling, to compare with Bertling's photo posting by Max Williams some years ago.

Hello!

I found on the one well-respected russian website (http://www.ak-group.ru) an interesting photo (attached) with this russians comment: "A very rare photo - Standartenführer SS Dechtling on the interrogation. No tabs, but with the Danzig Cross 1st Class."
In addition, this "mythical" SS-Staf. is present again in the many lists of the holders of this really rare cross.
(See: http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... g#p1170137 and http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... ng#p246627).
I don`t know any SS officers with such name and the rank. :|
I`m absolutely sure - on this photo is actually SS-Of. Heinz Bertling as a russian prisoner.
What is his fate at the end of the WWII?
Thanks,

Andrey.

Andrey~

If that's not Bertling, it's his exact clone, as this image posted by Phil Nix some time ago shows.
Afraid I don't have any data on Bertling with me at this time, so I don't know what transpired for him after the fall of the Third Reich.

A remarkable photograph / thanks for sharing it.

Best wishes,
~ Mike
