Ritterkreuzträger Siegfried Brosow

Postby PatBateman on 15 Mar 2008 22:43

Hello,
I am seeking information and photographs of Waffen SS Ritterkreuzträger Siegfried Brosow. I have searched the internet, and thus have a small handful of pictures already. I have read his bio at http://www.dasreich.ca, I have been to the website http://www.stengerhistorica.com/History ... Brosow.htm and downloaded copies of his award documents for the DKiG and the Ritterkreuz. This site also gives a good summary of his life and military career. I have a copy of Yerger's German Cross In Gold, which covers Herr Brosow, including details of his earning of the Ritterkreuz. Incidentally, Herr Brosow also wrote the foreword for this book. I have contacted Mr Miller at Axis Biographical Research and offered to pay for more information. While he could not provide much, he was most helpful and polite. He was good enough to give me copies of some documents from John Moore's Fuhrerliste der Waffen-SS CD-Rom series. These documents appear to be his Ritterkreuz recommendation letter along with a kind of career summary filled into a page divided into columns and boxes for appropriate awards, ranks etc.
If anyone has other information that is not covered above, I would be most appreciative. Thankyou.
Daniel.

Thankyou for the help sir. I have those two pictures as well as one where his cap is kind of tipped back and you can see the close combat clasp on his chest (see the link I posted).

On the topic of wound badges, Herr Brosow is mostly credited with getting black and silver.
On the Führerliste information I have, there is a column for wound badge. Written there is "schw - gold", which would indicate he also got the gold wound badge. Also, there is no checkmark next to the Ehrendegen, indicating that he did not get one. But I thought all those who passed officer school got one? Or is that me getting my facts wrong?
Just wondering about inconsistencies such as these. I guess a lot of answers are lost in time, but stuff like this would be great to get cleared up.
Thanks
D

The photo of the cap tilted on the back of his head was taken in Normandy , there a series of photos of him in Normandy directing the crossing of a Bridge , can't remember off the top of my head exactlt where it is.

Have met him on quite a few occasions he is a really nice , friendly and helpful guy,

I believe I know the Normandy photos your are talking about. One is in Yerger's book "German Cross In Gold - Holders of the SS and Police". The caption says it was taken in Normandy. He's definitely on a bridge, holding paperwork in his right hand, DKiG clearly visible. I don't know if I am allowed to post a scan of the pic, so I will not.

These numbers were in another thread, and were also later provided to me by Mr Miller.

I just read the picture posting guidelines. I should have read them first. It says you can post pics from books if you clearly state where they came from. So here is that pic of Mr Brosow in Normandy directing the bridge crossing. User Griffin Brigade says there are a series of these pics. I'd love to see the others. It is found in "German Cross in Gold: Holders of the SS and Police, Volume 1" by Mark C Yerger.
