SS-Staf. Günther Tamaschke

#1

Post by Shane A Beaver » 02 Apr 2008, 12:51

Can anybody enlighten me further with regard to the career of SS-Staf. Günther Tamaschke, please? I have the following:

1) Born: 26.02.96 (Berlin)
2) EK-1 and EK-2 WWI
3) SS NO: 851
4) NSDAP NO: 36978 (Golden Party Badge)
5) SS-Ustuf: 11.02.31
6) SS-Staf.: 15.09.35
7) 1934: Dachau (was Stabsführer der SS-TV until 01.04.36, replaced by Glücks)
8) Commander KL Lichtenburg, 01.12.37 to 12.38, replaced by Koegel
9) Commander KL Ravensbrück whilst under construction (12.38 to 31.08.39, replaced by Koegel)
10) Stab, SS-OA "Böhmen-Mähren" (10.44)

Questions:
1) When precisely was he appointed Stabsführer der SS-TV?
2) What did he do between 01.04.36 and 01.12.37?
3) What did he do after 31.08.39 (i.e. the war years)?
4) What were his duties with OA "Böhmen-Mähren"?

I can find virtually nothing on his career on the Axis site, and any assistance would be gratefully received. Thanks in advance.

After FKL Ravensbrück Tamaschke was posted somewhere in Poland or the Warthegau.
Bromberg also rings a slight bell in this connection. I seem to recall this position was not connected to the concentration camp system.

Thanks Phil, brilliant as always. This Dienststelle Fürstenberg - was that something to do with the construction/formation of KL Ravensbrück by any chance, or something else?

Sorry, this picture shows SS-Obersturmbannführer Max Koegel!
Günther Tamaschke was a slim man with glasses!

Of course you're right. Max Koegel. There are a lot of incorrect signatures on the Net.

He was captured in Sep 1916 on the Somme and reported missing in the Prussian Losses in Oct./Nov. 1916 serving as Ltn. d. Res. with 12 Kp./Inf.-Rgt. 358, the regiment suffered very heavy casualties at this time.

As early as December 1938, he was involved in establishing Ravensbrück concentration camp, a concentration camp for women and children, and stayed on the construction site at Fürstenberg/Havel.

Tamaschke prior to overseeing the building of Frauenkonzentrationslager Ravensbrück was Kommandant of Lichtenburg work camp for women. Lichtenburg was closed down when Ravensbrück opened and its inmates transferred to this new camp.
