Joachim Peiper: House & Death

#1

Post by Sturmkreuz » 20 Jun 2008, 16:06

Why did Joachim Peiper moved to France?
Why didn't he shot/wound any of the attackers?

I cannot think of one reason why he moved to france, some said as the reason why:
Peiper chose France because he loved the scenery, and a man whose life he saved offered him a piece of land.
I had heard that he moved to France where he could be someone who would be "lost" to the world and that he could live in relative obscurity

Why didn't he shoot his attackers?

A weapon (Normally: .22 Kal) has been found next to him after they found him after he was burned to death.
It was an "evidence" of a struggle/fight with (one of) his attackers..

France is a nice place to live. That's why people from all over Europe own property there, either as vacation homes or permanently.

He commited War Crimes, didn't he think that someone will try to hunt him down? Which eventualy happened?

Even when you were found unguilty, or you sack your time, they still try to hunt you down. Just like Jonathan did and other Nazi-Hunters.

released from jail end 1957, he worked as advertising counsellor for Porsche at Stuttgart from 1958 to 1961. He kept under pressure of factory unions. Then he has same job for Volkswagen at Reutlingen from 1961 till 1969.
He was then anew tried for the lssah action against italian village of Boves were 34 civilians were executed. He was released from accusation.
In 1967 he bought an superbe estate of 1 ha 1/2 at Traves in Haute Saone (not far from Germany) and decided to live there after the trial to be quiet. As member of EEC, he obtain in 1972 the statut of privilegied resident. Officially he spent time in translation of military books. Until communist party of Haute Saone discover him in june 1976 and start a campaign for his expulsion.
In the night of 13/14 july 1976 after the arson of his house, a burned body was discovered : Peiper or not , The circumstances where unclear in spite of official declaration of death after investigation.
In a serie of articles and a book another version was given : he organised himself his "death" to disappear and live quietly somewhere under false identity.

the investigation was conducted by french criminal police (S.R.P.J.)from Dijon in liaison with the Gendarmerie of Haute Saone.
The conditions of the arson were trouble, police thank to a "screenplay". In more, the head of Peiper was lost during a transfer from Traves to Germany.
The real conditions of the arson as well the authors were never really explained. Did he died in arson or did he organised his "death" in view to live quiet under false name far from Traves ?
A judgement of the Tribunal de Grande Instance of Vesoul (near Traves)declared Peiper officially dead on 27.05.1977.
