Re: Information requested about SS-officers
I found an SS-Untersturmführer Ferdinand Nitsen who was with the 27.SS-Freiwilligen-Grenadier-Division "Langemarck" in March 1945. He was born 26.03.1922 and was killed in action 19.03.1945.

I got this from John P. Moore's "Führerliste der Waffen-SS." I'm afraid this is all there is (I gave you his date of birth).

Re: Information requested about SS-officers
Hallo
Is the mentioned SS-StaObJu Dr A Heylens perhaps the following man:
Andreas Heylens, born 06.06.1917,????
I have him as an Leg.-Hscha with RDA 15.3.42 as Abteilungsarzt with the I.Btl/SSNachrichten AE Rgt in March 1943.
If this is the man you meant, can you state whether or not he was flemish??
regards
Nico

Re: Information requested about SS-officers
Thank you very much for this new information!
I have him as the author of an article about the Flemish contribution in the Waffen-SS, in the Flemish (national socialist) newspaper «Balming» of July 1944. And he signed his article as SS-Standartenoberjunker.
Can you explain to me what RDA is? I can’t find it on the net. And I never heard of a doctor Heylens in the Frw.Leg.Flandern before. Does Leg.-Hscha. mean that he had taken the oath of the legion? So at some time he was a member of the Frw.Leg.Flandern?

Re: Information requested about SS-officers
Hallo Stormman
Glad you liked the information. RDA= Rangdienstalter i.e. the date from which a certain rank was counted especially for reasons of payment.
This does not mean that both the date the rank was attained and the RDA were always the same.
The fact that he had an Leg.- prefix only indicated that he had volunteered for the Legion and not for the Waffen-SS, however he could easily been send to a 'pure' Waffen-SS formation, actually the prefix is not that important.
Whether or not he had taken the oath of the Legion I do not know.
best regards
