SS Gerhard Maurer..Any info?

#1

Post by J. Duncan » 02 Aug 2008, 18:22

Hello - This "Gerhard Maurer" seems to be a slippery figure who has escaped notice in just every Third Reich encyclopedia, book, SS etc...the "Encyclopedia of the holocaust" 9 (israel gutman - 4 vols.) has no article on him nor does Zenter's "Ency. Third reich"...Maurer is discussed in Rudolf Höss's "Commandant of Auschwitz" as being a big-shot in the camp inspectorate..you would think there would be more on this man but there isn't. Andrew Mollo's "Pictorial SS" has an early photo of a "Schaub, Schreck, "Maurer", and Schneider"......does anyone have any info on this murky figure?
Any photos exist of him? Thanks. (Duncan)

Thanks Fred - that's the man - of "DII Wirtschaft" - he must have worked for Oswald Pohl. He was also a younger man than Hoess, having been born in 1907 - a man only in his mid thirties with so much power, yet most of them were young. I still find it strange that not much is written on him as he was a big shot of the Holocaust mentioned in an appendix by Hoess. I think he might have been Höss's boss when he worked for the Inspectorate. The pic. of 1923 by Mollo is obviously not the same Maurer.
Maybe someone will find a photo. Thanks again. (Duncan)

Hi! The man along with Hitler and others in the photograph from 1923 is Hans-Jörg Maurer (1891-1959). Here is a link with a photo and information on him. Cheers!
